The Perfect Baby Handbook: Review & Giveaway

The day I got a pre-release copy of The Perfect Baby Handbook: A Guide for Excessively Motivated Parents I was in serious need of levity. Lucky for me I got it! This book is a refreshing mockery of all the "how to get the perfect kid" talk we here and read. Now I will admit I sometimes try a little to hard to get the perfect kids but sometimes I need to be reminded to take it easy. All to soon these kiddos will be grown so lets find the humor! This book was so funny. I laughed so hard my eyes were watering.

Walk into any bookstore and you’ll encounter a ludicrous number of “expert” baby-rearing manuals. Although The Perfect Baby Handbook provides a solid foundation, it goes without saying that you’ll need to read them all. A sampling:

* Are You My Mother and, If So, Must You Slouch Like That?
* Infants and Their Little Anxiety Attacks
* No Ifs, Ands, or Buts: How to Parent Without Using Certain Grammatical Constructions
* Throat Lozenges of the Baby Whisperer
* 10,001 Great Baby Names Selfish Celebrities Have Already Snapped Up
* The No-Cry-from-4:01-to-4:03-a.m. Solution
* The Obviously Gifted Child: A Guide to Spotting Glaring Brilliance
* Layettes of the Aztec Kings
* What to Expect When the Word “Expect” Becomes Meaningless
* Because You’re a Terrible Daddy Who Just Smoked a Gigantic Joint
* Creating Insecurities in Your Baby—So He Can Triumphantly Overcome Them
* The Tale of Peter Rabbit’s Unfortunate Speech Impediment
* An Angel Fell Out of the Sky and Landed in Our Nursery, Slightly Injuring Our Baby

Win it!

I have been trying and trying to get the words mama to come out of my child's mouth one day I thought she had it and I grab the video camera for proof and ask her to say Mama and I get "Ah dada" 3 times! I turn off the camera walk away and in the background I hear "mama?"

It's not at all funny, yet it's hilarious, to watch my 18-mos. old find ways to climb on top of things. He moves his stroller to climb on it to get on the table. Opens the kitchen cupboard dwarers and uses them like steps to get on the counter. Stands on the bathroom scale to give him an extra two inches in height to reach a shelf. It's hilarious...and insane.

the other day, my 15-mo old was wrinkling his nose and sniffing loudly - he does this to get some laughs - and a nice little ball of snot flew out...and landed in my mouth. yuck! My mom laughed really hard when I told her, because when I was a baby I spit up in her mouth.

Tonight at dinner we were at a semi-nice restaurant with my 5 month old. She was dressed in Polo and everything. Right as dinner gets there she poops all over her me and the carseat. I thought I would die of embarassment

The other night in the tub, my four year old lathered his face in bubbles and told my husband he is a jackass. Meaning, with all the bubbles on his face he looked like a donkey from Pinnochio, thanks Disney! LOL

Today our 10-month old threw his cup on the floor, looked straight at mama, then turned to dada, and pointed to the ground! In his 10-month old vocabulary, said..."goooodada-dere" - implying, go daddy, there it is! It was too cute (probably because it was the third time at dinner that he had thrown the cup to get some attention). I could use the humor, especially on the days our 2.5 year old is being, well, a 2.5 year old!

The night my husband and I brought our son home my husband was asleep on the couch and my son was screaming. I went to wake my husband up so that I could have some help and he says, " What is that!?" I said "Umm, it's your son!"

Moment of hilarity and sibling rivalry for our family was when my daughter was jealous of her new baby brother. She decided she would hide all his pacifiers from him. She took them all and stashed them in her play kitchen. It was a funny moment, but also a moment I had to teach her about loving her baby brother.

My twins will giggle with glee as i'm cleaning and making faces at them. When I turn my head it's immediate screams and cries. Two seconds and they're giggling again while I'm peeking at them. It's kinda funny yet maddening at the same time :)
